SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Seafloor Fiber Optic Sensing
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the webinar: Seafloor Fiber Optic Sensi
 ng on Wednesday\, March 30 from 12:00 Noon - 3:00 PM Easte
rn.\n\nRegister here for this virtual event.\n\nOrganized by:
DAS RCN Marine Geophysics Working Group & IRIS\n\nModerated by
: Nate Lindsey and Meagan Wengrove\n\nRecently developed photo
nic measurement techniques\, including optical phase interfer
ometry\, Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and State of Pola
rization (SOP)\, are lowering the barrier to continuous obser
vations of elastic\, acoustic and thermal wavefields at the s
eafloor. Fiber optic datasets\, collected using existing tele
communications and science cables\, provide first-of-kind rec
 ordings of earthquakes\, ocean/solid-earth interactions\, hydr
odynamic phenomena\, and marine mammals. The Spring Webinar w
ill highlight some of the latest work in this space\, and pre
sent new open-access datasets for the general science commun
ity to dive in to this emerging field for themselves. Pleas
e see the attached flyer for more information about the spea
kers.\n\nThis event will be held in Zoom Webinar format and wi
ll feature the following presentations along with time for Q
&A. A recording will be made available on our YouTube playli
st after the event.\n\n	Léa Bouffaut\, Cornell University\n\n	DA
S4Whales: A Case-Study of Baleen Whale Monitoring using Dist
ributed Acoustic Sensing\n\n	 \n	Ethan Williams\, CalTech and
William Wilcock\, University of Washington\n\n	A Community Test
of DAS and DTS on the Ocean Observatories Initiative Region
al Cabled Array\n	Han Xiao\, University of California\, Santa B
 arbara\n\n	The Moving Sources of High-Frequency Microseisms\n\n
\n	Pierre Martz\, Infinera Corp.\n\n	Seismic Detection and Loc
 alization using Submarine Cables\n\n	 \n	Mikael Mazur\, Nokia B
 ell Labs\n\n	Environmental Sensing using
Coherent Optical Transceivers\n\nUse of Distributed Acoustic S
ensing is rapidly expanding in our community\, prompting the
initiation of an Distributed Acoustic Sensing Research Coord
ination Network to facilitate workshops\, tutorials\, and othe
r opportunities for sharing ideas and resources. This webina
r is one in a planned series on different topics within Dist
ributed Acoustic Sensing.\n\nIf you are new to DAS or interest
ed in being part of the DAS RCN community\, you can find out
more information and sign up for the DAS RCN mailing list he
re. \n\nPrevious DAS RCN webinars are available on our YouTu
be playlist. \n\nAny questions? Contact us at das-rcn@iris.ed
